We wanted to see if we could run the water from our duck pond to irrigate our vegetable garden. See what failed and what worked.
We are setting up to irrigate our raised garden beds with our duck pond water, but before we do, we wanted to know if there was any nitrogen, potassium, or phosphorus in the water. I used our little rapid soil test kit, but instead of water from the soil, we used the duck pond water. I was really surprised by the results, and it was definitely worth it to test.
Don't worry, it wasn't hard and you don't need to be a chemist. Testing Soil to check the amount of nutrients was something I had never really thought about doing. Soil is just soil right??? But when we started Our Little Suburban Homestead, our plants just weren't producing like I thought they would. We tested our soil using only one method in this video, but even so, the results really surprised us. (And no, we were not paid to use the test kit we chose, it was just easy to obtain) Watch the video to see what happened. And don't forget to subscribe!
ANYONE CAN DO THIS! even if your not super handy, have limited time, or limited space. Let's help conserve our aquifers and reservoirs. If you're thinking about building a rain harvesting system, follow us as we take you through the process step by step.
This first video will cover the following:
1) State restrictions and rebates.
2) Why we chose BlueBarrelSystems.com
3) How to size your system.
4) How to order your materials (10% off coupon code included)
Using the resources we have available, we show how we built our Arbor Trellis out of bamboo and the tools we used to complete it.
